Jane came to Philosofarian through a friend, the way most people do. Over ten years ago, Kit invited her to a Wit & Wisdom talk. Jane liked it, but it when she found her way to Scoundrels, the weekly discussion group, she knew she'd found where she wanted to be. She's been part of the fabric of this community ever since. When Gad and Seth asked her to join the board, it was a natural step.

Jane spent her career as a librarian and principal, finding ideas for people, keeping things on track, making sure the pieces came together. And she was darn good at it. When she walked into Scoundrels for the first time, she found was a room full of people listening to each other without rules posted on the wall or an agenda handed out at the door. The conversation unfolded. She recognized a different way of doing what she'd always cared about.

She brings a lot to the table. She's served on the Clatsop Community College Board and the local water board, worked as a mediator in Clatsop County Circuit Court, and served as a Diaconal Minister of Reconciliation in the United Methodist Church. She still volunteers as a mediator and works as a Court Visitor. She describes herself, , as a generalist, a seeker, and a bureaucrat in recovery. She forgot to mention her winning charm, but we didn’t.

Jane has sat through enough board meetings to know what she doesn't want the experience to be. She's joining because she thinks it can be something different: a board that actually thinks together, stays ahead of the work, and brings the same generative spirit to governance that Philosofarian brings to everything else.

Jane is deeply rooted here. Her adoptive family raised her here and she in turn raised her family with her husband Jim in Svensen. She still manages her home and property there. She's a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and considers learning a permanent condition.

It is increasingly evident that sharing our questions, ideas, points of view and dreams is vital to our human condition. Private exchanges, group informational settings and public discussions are part the treasures we have...but that can be lost
