What exactly is meant by “duty”?

Some ethical traditions place obligation near the center of moral life. But where do duties come from, and why should they bind us? Does doing the right thing require wanting to do it? What happens when our obligations conflict?

We’ll approach these questions through Immanuel Kant, the Bhagavad Gītā, and Epictetus.
