Philosophical Ethics, Part 1

  • The Catalyst 264 West Marine Drive Astoria, Oregon, 97103 United States (map)

How much should the consequences of an action determine whether it is ethical?

Intentions can be admirable and outcomes disastrous. An action can produce benefits while still seeming deeply wrong. And sometimes we must act without knowing what will follow. The show “The Good Place” explored this question over four seasons.

This session considers the moral weight of consequences through J.S. Mill, Peter Singer, and the Abhidhamma.
