The Arc of Indian Philosophy, Part I

  • The Catalyst 264 West Marine Drive Astoria, Oregon, 97103 United States (map)

Our final session turns to Jain philosophy and its influential commitments to nonviolence, disciplined practice, and philosophical pluralism.

We’ll consider Jain approaches to knowledge and perspective alongside its demanding account of how actions affect living beings. They were the great librarians of Indian philosophy. They preserved many writings others dismissed. Without them we would not have the rich record of thought we do today.

What follows when both truth and ethical conduct require sustained attention to viewpoints beyond one’s own?

This Saturday session repeats Wednesday’s class.
