What do we owe people who are vulnerable?
People who work in health, wellness, caregiving, counseling, social services, hospice, disability support, and related fields encounter questions like this all the time, even when nobody calls them philosophical. Questions about dignity, autonomy, dependence, suffering, responsibility, and what it means to help come up everyday.
Care in Conversation is a chance to step outside the pressure of the workplace, conference, or professional training and think through those questions with other people who spend their lives caring for others and a professional philosopher.
We’ll begin with one central question about the vulnerable and let the conversation open from there. Other questions that might come up: When does helping become deciding for someone? What does dignity require when independence changes? What’s the relationship between care, harm, and autonomy?
The evening is also an introduction to the kinds of conversations Philosofarian hosts at The Catalyst: thoughtful, guided discussions about the questions that bubble up living our lives.
Come see the space, meet Philosofarian, and bring your own experience of what care asks of people.
