What’s Next for Philosofarian

Thank you, Astoria.

Because of your support on Giving Tuesday, we’ve already raised $5,769 and welcomed 15 people into the 42 Club. You helped us launch our first end-of-year campaign with some great momentum.

Here’s what comes next.

Where the campaign is now

We began December with a simple goal:
to invite our community into sustaining public philosophy in Astoria.

After Giving Tuesday, we’ve already welcomed new monthly donors, received one-time gifts, and heard from people who care deeply about keeping philosophy free and available to everyone.

This support keeps our gatherings open and our classes accessible. It also moves us closer to something many of you have asked about…

A dedicated third space for Philosofarian

For years we’ve been hosted by generous spots around town: Fort George, Bridge & Tunnel, Cambium Gallery, 1015 Theater, Blue Scorcher, Warrenton Library and the Masonic Lodge. These places have shaped who we are, and we’ll keep collaborating with them.

But we have begun imagining what Philosofarian could become with a space of our own — a place where conversations, classes, circles, and drop-in thinking could live all week long rather than only when a room is available.

If you’re curious about why third spaces matter so much, this piece is a good place to start:

Why Third Spaces?

What’s happening this month

December is filled with thinking:

  • Dec 15: Last Aesthetics class: What is creativity?

  • Dec 17 Scoundrels: Why are people religious?

  • New feature pages on our thinkers and community members

  • More stories from people who’ve found their way into Philosofarian

You’ll see updates through email and on the website as the month unfolds.

If you’d like to support the campaign

Many people give after attending an event or reading someone’s story.
If you’d like to take part, you can do that here:

Support Philosofarian

Monthly donors, one-time gifts, and even simple messages of encouragement all help us keep philosophy free for Astoria.

Thank you for being part of this

Philosofarian exists because people show up for questions worth asking.
You being here is how we build this community together.

We’re grateful you’re here.
