This week we meet Cārvāka, a materialist and skeptical tradition famous for challenging many assumptions shared by its philosophical neighbors. Its critics accused it of hedonism. Its surviving fragments raise sharper questions about evidence, authority, pleasure, and how one should live without metaphysical guarantees.
